What is Flight Dynamics as-a-Service?

The term “as a Service” refers to the delivery of value to a customer through the provision of a service-like offering, usually interfaced through web-dashboards and APIs.

In satellite operations, Flight Dynamics as-a-Service (FDaaS) refers to the execution of flight dynamics tasks (orbit determination, maneuver planning, safety of flight, etc…) by an external set of experts and tools, who deliver the solutions to the satellite owner/operator.

What are the main advantages of FDaaS?

  • 🎮 No loss of control. With FDaaS solutions, the satellite owner/operator remains in full control of the mission objectives, defining the orbital objectives, maneuver strategies and mission parameters.
  • 💲 No CAPEX for your mission. FDaaS removes the need to acquire expensive Flight Dynamics tools, turning capital expenditure into a recurring operational cost.
  • ⚖️ Dynamic workload balance. Tasks in flight dynamics are very different during routine operations and off-nominal events. FDaaS allows you to access the right experts on-demand depending on your mission needs.

  • 📈 A service that scales with your needs; by using FDaaS, you can manage flight dynamics for one or hundreds of satellites, without any changes to your team architecture.
  • 📋 Simple products ready to use. As a FDaaS consumer, there are only two products that you will need to use: ephemeris products and maneuver plans. Everything else is being managed externally.

As a satellite owner/operator, Flight Dynamics as-a-Service presents you with clear advantages that can have a substantial impact on the cost and efficiency of your mission(s).
